Savannah is always a romantic destination and especially so on Valentine’s Day!  You can even say “I Do” Savannah style!

Say "I Do" Savannah Style

Our wonderful Davenport House Museum will be available for Valentine’s Day weddings in the always beautiful Davenport House Garden.  From 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on February 14th, you can get married in the museum’s beautiful courtyard garden and make it a Valentine’s Day to remember! Ceremonies will be offered every 10  minutes.  A local judge will officiate and the price is a $100 donation to the museum.  Couples should reserve their time slot in advance, so call  912.236.8097 for additional information.

To complete your fairy tale experience, we have two very romantic cottages available for Valentine’s Day!

Eugenia and Louisa Kerr were sisters. Their father built them each a townhome next door to each other on W Harris Street in the 1800’s.  The main and carriage houses were renovated in the 1980’s and the current owners named their side “Eugenia.”   The Eugenia Kerr Carriage House has served as a home base for countless happy guests, some who stay for two nights and some who stay for months.

‘The Roost’ offers one large bedroom with a queen-sized bed made by a local artisan furniture maker with a luxurious mattress. Eclectic artwork and artifacts from the owner’s world travels dot the cottage. Walk into ‘The Roost’ and see the vintage typewriter and accountant’s desk along with Zapatista paintings, local artwork, and original prints from Nashville’s Hee Haw Press and Cuba’s international film festival. You can relax or dine on the covered front porch and watch the neighborhood go by or use the antique portable picnic table for picnics in nearby Forsyth Park.

Come say “I Do” Savannah style.  The garden will be beautiful, our cottages are always romantic and all this fairytale needs is you and your special someone!

A Busy Bee’s Retreat to Tybee

Tondee & I are taking a much needed “corporate retreat” out to Tybee to enjoy this unseasonably warm weather!

We were lucky enough to stumble upon the peaceful and charming cottage fondly known as “Fiddler on the Creek”! The historic fishing cottage comes complete with a cozy screen porch and mini dock with room for friends to gather. The dock is an ideal spot for stargazing on the chaise lounges, finding peace on your yoga mat, and even fishing (will post results later!).

Read more about the Fiddler on the Creek cottage on Mermaid Cottage’s blog & view the video below for the full experience that this charming fishing cottage offers!

Caution, once you watch it, you will want to book it immediately!

Wish us luck with the fishing – oh yes, and the work!

And most of all,  huge heartfelt thanks to the Mermaids for taking such good care of us on our retreat!

Best, Laurie d. & Tondee

One Savannahian we’re so glad to know is You’re Welcome Savannah co-founder Cedric Smith.  Cedric is a self-taught painter and photographer who creates the shots you see on the site.  His iconic images include landscape art, pop art, brand advertising and especially photography, either his own, vintage images, or a combination of the two. Cedric spends most days capturing our Hostess City’s vibe and most nights creating his dynamic works of art.  In fact, he fashioned this extraordinary portrait of my Tondee that is one of my most prized possessions.

I spend my days defining and presenting Busy Bee’s Savannah Cottage Style and I am so happy to be  inspired and influenced by Cedric’s discerning eye for Savannah!

Rails To Trails

On January 12, 2013, the Savannah Rails to Trails 50K will be Savannah’s first Ultra-Marathon!  The race is set to take off on the grounds of the Historic Fort Pulaski and McQueen’s Island Rails to Trails – Savannah.
Rails To Trails From A Savannah Cottage
Now,  an Ultra Marathon may not be in your repertoire, yet, so the planners have made sure there is a race to suit your level.  There are two other races taking place, a 5k and 25K.  Your participation will help raise funding and awareness for the severely eroded conditions on parts of the Rails to Trails so that it can be properly restored and maintained.  You’ll be inspired by the natural beauty of this low country course as it weaves around the Ft. Pulaski grounds and the Rails to Trails.  Please join Run 4 a Reason, Low country Ultras, Fleet Feet Savannah and help save our Rails to Trails! Continue Reading »
