Tea At Mrs. Davenport’s

Each year I look forward to learning more about history and traditions and one of my favorite Savannah programs is Tea At Mrs. Davenport’s!

Tea at Mrs. Davenport's

March means it’s time to make time to visit Davenport House Museum on Columbia Square.  Learn about tea traditions and experience an early 19th century tea in the historic atmosphere of the Isaiah Davenport House Museum. Patrons will tour areas of the historic home where tea service took place and will participate in an afternoon tea with costumed interpreters.  The performance requires that guests be able to walk up and down stairs and it’s a wonderful opportunity to see this extraordinary house. It’s going to be another wonderful Savannah night at the movies!  Gone With The Wind is here!

Savannah's Night At The Movies: Gone With The Wind

Times: 6 p.m. Dates: Sep 21, 2012 Location: Lucas Theatre Admission: $8 Website: www.lucastheatre.com/venues/lucas/schedule.cfm Phone: 912.525.5050

Based on the bestselling book by Georgia’s own Margaret Mitchell, the famous film, was shot in three-strip Technicolor and may be cinema’s greatest historical epic film of the Old South during wartime.  With a star-studded cast of Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland, and Hattie McDaniel, it tells a timeless tale of a love-hate romance, as well as survival during massive upheaval.  Scarlett O’Hara struggles to find love and identity during the Civil War and Reconstruction in the American South.
It was produced by David O. Selznick and directed by Victor Fleming, from a screenplay by Sidney Howard. The film received ten Academy Awards (eight competitive, two honorary), a record that stood for 20 years. The film runs 3 hours and 44 minutes, with a 15-minute intermission.

Mammy: Savannah would be better for ya. You’d just get in trouble in Atlanta.
Scarlett: What trouble are you talking about?
Mammy: You know what trouble I’s talkin’ ’bout. I’s talking ’bout Mr. Ashley Wilkes. He’ll be comin’ to Atlanta when he gets his leave, and you sittin’ there waitin’ for him, just like a spider. He belongs to Miss Melanie…

Now, what better way to enjoy Savannah’s night at the movies and Gone With The Wind than actually being in historic Savannah?  Call now and I’ll help you choose just the right historic cottage or townhouse so you can see what all the fuss is about!

Up in the air and on the water!  It’s FALL in Savannah and it’s a beautiful time to see and explore the hostess city.  This week is especially special with all the events to be presented by Savannah Ocean Exchange!  Tonight, learn more about the greening of the naval and aviation industries during a Savannah Ocean Exchange-sponsored panel discussion at the SCAD Museum of Art.

Up In The Air and On The Water
Roger Bowman, the Corporate Sustainability Process Manager for Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., will moderate the discussion featuring Charles Etter, a Gulfstream Staff Scientist, and Per Brinchmann, Vice President – Technical of the Norwegian ship owner Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA.
Etter, who is responsible for monitoring environmental changes that could impact Gulfstream, will discuss advancing programs to reduce environmental impact, improve energy efficiency and set standards that lead to more efficient facilities, products and services.
Brinchmann, meanwhile, will discuss how his company’s ships are designed and built for today’s needs and the future as ports around the globe prepare to accommodate ever-increasing cargo from foreign destinations.
