fab'rik has affordable and fashion forward finds on West Broughton Street
Okay, I admit it. I love to get a great deal when I shop in Savannah. And, I like to try new trends without committing an entire paycheck.
Enter fab’rik, a Savannah boutique that knows that fashion is changing as quickly as our 2012 winter!
I was elated when fab’rik opened up on Broughton Street last year for this very reason. The “just right” amount of personal service I received helped secure a super cute and versatile polka dot top to go with my fave red pants. The denim bar at fab’rik has my favorite Hudson jeans, as well as other tried and trues like 7 for All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity.
Always lots of fun finds at this West Broughton Street shopping spot
There is also a wide array of layering tops, bottoms, and dresses to go ga-ga over. Tons of finishing touches from arm candy to that French-looking scarf will help you pull your look together. All at super reasonable prices. Yes, please.
I was lucky enough to be able to grab a few minutes from Bree Thomas, owner of fab’rik of Savannah. Bree shared her thoughts about Savannah shopping, ghosts in her store and she shares her tips for navigating spring trends as well as how to get some great deals at fab’rik. Read on for more.
1. Full name/nickname: Bree Thomas
2. Hometown: Monticello, FL (aka Tallahassee)
3. How you found your way into the fashion industry:
I always had a passion for fashion even at a young age growing up with all boys. I was always keeping up with latest trends in Magazines . Even though I was passionate about fashion, I was equally as passionate about business. I went to college to study Business. Graduated & started working at Gulfstream. I loved the company & dynamics but knew I wanted to follow my dream of owning my own boutique after having my son. I took the leap of faith in 2010 & have enjoyed every minute of it. It’s something I’m truly interested in & enjoy building such amazing relationships with our customers!
4. I love walking into fab’rik bc I feel like there is always something new and reasonably priced. How are you able to stay on trend and keep prices accessible?
Well we get a new shipment every day so that makes it fun & ever changing. Our whole store is based around being on trend without breaking the bank. We feel high fashion should be accessible to everyone so everything in our store is always under $100 (besides our designer denim bar we have).
5.Your favorite trends for spring:
Well I am all about bright bold colors. Whether it’s a beautiful top or maxi skirt, I’m all over it. I am a summer baby & the winter months kill me. I love all the tribal prints & chunky gold accessories hitting the store.
I found this ensemble at Savannah's fab'rik super cute and wearble.
6. I love your Historic store! Any idea who was originally in your space? Any ghosts late at night?
Well no “official” ghosts but we’ve had a few things in disarray when we’ve come in. If there are any ghosts, we’re happy to share the space with them 🙂 I had the pleasure of meeting the sweet woman who used to own the Antique store that my space was at one time. She told me the space originally was Savannah Buggie Company. They manufactured them on the 2nd floor & the assembly line ended on the main floor. If you go on my 2nd floor you can see the wood is discolored from all the oil they spilled. She renovated the building to the state it’s in now & did an amazing job keeping the old charm. All I did was paint & move in!
7. Why did you choose to open on West Broughton St?
West Broughton has such a great dynamic. The spaces are large & the landlords have taken great care of beautifully restoring the spaces. Plus I’m surrounded by other amazing boutiques that all work really well together to create a destination among Broughton.
8. You will never be caught dead wearing:
Well I can’t say really anything. I’m willing to try anything once. Unless God forbid overalls come back in…and even if they do, I may consider it but it may take me a while. There’s a lot of things I choose not to wear simply because I know my body and know what works well & what doesn’t.
9. What is the best fashion advice you were given (and who gave it to you)?
Oddly enough, my Mother told me years ago that “every color goes together”. She’s an Elementary Art teacher so the color wheel is all connected in her mind 🙂 I disputed her claim for years but have to laugh now seeing all the girls using color blocking and mixing patterns together.
10. Fashion trend that is very “Savannah.”
Oh gee, other than Sperry shoes, seersucker anything, & the Georgia swooped hair??? I’d have to say, the nautical trend will probably always be a staple here. Being a coastal City has an advantage, those nautical stripes, rope details, & pops of reds/corals will be here for a while.
I’d also like an “insider” tidbit (like when new product usually ships to you or how they can get a deal when season switchover happens, etc).
My insider tip is to get on our email list if you’re not already! We get shipments daily & merchandise is limited quantities. We offer private sales to our customers frequently & we do a great job at making them feel special.
